Notable journalist and media industry moves:

  • New York Post: deputy business editor Holly Sanders Ware gets promotion to deputy web editor. Serena French promotes to co-editor-in chief of Alexa overseeing fashion coverage, working alongside co-editor David Kaufman, who oversees real estate, culture, and other lifestyle topics.
  • Multiple Sclerosis Discovery Forum: Carol Morton, former managing editor, leaves and takes up freelancing.
  • SmartWork Media: former digital editor of Triad Business Journal James Ritchie joins as digital content editor. Former editor-in-chief of Indesign Trace Shelton moves to Instore. Indesign to cease regular print publication to publish within Instore. A 2017 launch of Pets+, a trade publication for pet businesses, is planned, but editor has yet to be named.
  • Bankrate.com: BH Media’s central Virginia regional editor Nick Mathews joins as senior money editor. Mathews is to oversee reporters in the Florida office.
  • Nashville Business Journal: Meg Garner joins as reporter covering banking, government, and law.
  • Slack Inc.: Nhu Te promotes to replace Christian Ingram, who leaves, as managing editor of Orthopedics Today. Shawn M. Carter replaces Amanda Alexander as managing editor of O&P News, as Ms. Alexander becomes associate editor with Almanac. Shirley Pulawski, online managing editor of Healio Rheumatology Online, leaves.
  • The Associated Press: establishes a global environmental reporting team led by Raghu Vadarevu, Tim Reiterman, and Thomas McCarthy. The team is made up of reporters from different areas covering climate, air, water, land, and wildlife.
  • The Washington Post: Adam Entous, former reporter for The Wall Street Journal joins as national security reporter effective October 17.
  • Recode: Wired contributor April Glaser joins on September 19 as reporter covering robots and drones.
  • Bloomberg Television: anchor Pamela Ritchie leaves.
  • MámasLatinas.com: under editor-in-chief Johanna Torres the site launches a redesign that improves its mobile interface and makes editorial content more prominent.
  • The Oregonian: Laura Gunderson promotes from investigative reporter to editorial pages editor.
  • Bloomberg: Mark Bergen, formerly senior editor of Recode, joins as reporter covering Alphabet and Google on September 26.
  • Chicago Tribune: Phil Rosenthal moves from role as business columnist to writing features for the sports section. Robert Reed, former editor of Crain’s Chicago Business, joins as lead business columnist to replace Rosenthal.
  • Seventeen: reduces frequency of publications from 10x per year to bimonthly.
  • Quartz: Lila MacLellan joins as reporter covering health, personal finance, and productivity, while former PBS producer Hannah Yi joins as video journalist.
  • Politico Pro: former White House correspondent for Bloomberg Angela GreilingKeane joins as deputy tech editor. She joins alongside Anthony Adregna, former energy reporter for Bloomberg BNA. Also joining these deputy tech editors is former higher education reporter for the Houston Chronicle Benjamin Wermund. Senior managing editor of Redfin Lorraine Woellert joins as financial services reporter.
  • CBS News: ABC News Now executive producer Nancy Han joins as senior producer for “CBS This Morning”.
  • WCPO-TV/Cincinnati: former KSTP-TV/Minneapolis assistant news director Craig Cheatham joins as executive producer and reporter for the investigative team.
  • CNET: former New York Daily News associate engagement editor Alfred Ng joins as a general assignment reporter.
  • Prevention: former media consultant Andrea Barbalich joins as executive editor.
  • Southern Living: former assistant managing editor of Country Living Caitlin Miller joins as managing editor on October 3.
  • North Jersey Media Group: after Gannet Co.’s acquisition in July, the publication cuts 200 out of 426 staffers.
  • Toronto Star: launches “Headline Coffee”, a new service that delivers coffee to Toronto residents. This announcement comes alongside news of layoffs of 22 full-time journalists and 26 temporary staff members. Sean Fitz-Gerald among those laid off.
  • CBC/Quebec: former senior program manager Meredith Dellandrea promotes to managing director of CBC News and Centres for the Quebec region.
  • Salon Communications: Erin Torrance, formerly of Lombardi Publishing, joins as digital editor of Elevate and Salon.
