Atlanta Journal-Constitution: local economy team coach Scott Thurston retires, effective at the end of the month.
Chicago Sun-Times: Jim Kirk has left to become Senior VP of Strategic Initiatives for Tronc. The Sun-Times was recently acquired by a group led by Chicago business executive Edwin Eisendrath.
Dallas Morning News: food critic Leslie Brenner will leave on September 8th for a management position with Rebees, a Dallas-based real estate developer.
Los Angeles Times: California correspondent Peter H. King (@peterhking) has left.
New York Daily News: Don Kaplan has left to become Deputy Press Secretary for New York governor Andrew Cuomo.
New York Times: promotes Sewell Chan (@sewellchan) to a new Deputy Editor position in which he will oversee international news coverage from New York. He’s currently based in London. “Corner Office” columnist Adam Bryant has left.
Rivard Report: Beth Frerking (@BethFrerking) has been appointed Editor-in-Chief. Robert Rivard (@rivardinsa) will become Publisher. The non-profit website covers news in San Antonio. The site will adopt a new name after her arrival.
Washington Post: hires Beth Reinhard (@bethreinhard) as a Reporter on the new rapid-response investigative team. Also joining the team are the following staffers from the Metro desk: Accountability Reporter Shawn Boburg (@ShawnBoburg), K-12 Education Reporter Emma Brown (@emmersbrown) and D.C. City Hall Reporter Aaron Davis (@byaaroncdavis).
Broadcasting
Bloomberg News: Doni Bloomfield (@DoniBloomfield) has left to enter law school.
CBC: appoints Adrienne Arsenault (@adriearsenault), Rosemary Barton (@RosieBarton), Andrew Chang (@AndrewChangCBC) and Ian Hanomansing (@cbcian) as hosts of “The National,” its evening news program. They will continue reporting their own stories. The program will broadcast live across six Canadian time zones. Arsenault and Hanomansing will work in the Toronto studio. Chang is based in Vancouver and Barton in Ottawa. They replace Peter Mansbridge, who left.

CNNMoney: hires Daniel Shane as a Reporter in Hong Kong. He begins in September.
Financial Times: Tim Bradshaw (@tim) is now covering the convergence of technology and entertainment. He recently moved from San Francisco to Los Angeles.
Consumer Lifestyle
American Media Inc.: has named Jennifer Peros (@jenperos) as Managing Editor for its celebrity publications, including US Weekly, Star, OK!, National Enquirer, Globe and National Examiner. She was previously deputy news director for US Weekly.
Cooking Light: have launched a redesign with the September issue. New features include “What’s Fresh Now,” covering food trends; “Plan. Shop. Cook.,” consisting of a single grocery list; and “Picky Eater Guru.” Also new are the “Ask the Experts” department and a pet food section. Health and nutrition coverage will appear throughout the magazine rather than being confined to a single section.
Elle.com: promotes Sally Holmes (@sallyholmes) to Executive Editor. Social Media Director Gena Kaufman (@GenaKaufman) adds responsibility for special projects. R. Eric Thomas (@oureric) joins as a Senior Writer.
Men’s Fitness: will cease print publication later this year. Print subscribers will receive Men’s Journal, which American Media Inc. recently acquired from Wenner Media. The latter publication will increase frequency from 10 to 12 issues per year and increase circulation to 1.25 million, effective with the November issue. Men’s Fitness will remain as an all-digital brand.

People: Nicole Weisensee Egan (@nweisenseeegan) has left. Her work for the magazine included medical stories. She’s established a website at nicoleweisenseeegan.com to promote her work as an investigative journalist and human-interest writer.

Intercept, The: hires James Risen as Senior National Security Correspondent, effective in September.
Nextgov: promotes Frank Konkel (@Frank_Konkel) to Executive Editor, replacing Camille Tuutti (@camilletuutti), who became Editor-in-Chief of GovernmentCIO Magazine. Heather Kuldell (@hmKuldell) has been promoted to Managing Editor. The trade publication covers information technology in the federal government.
