The NHL trade deadline came and went on Monday, and while there weren’t that many deals done among the league’s 30 teams ━ one reporter even referred to it as a “lunchbag letdown” ━ there was no shortage of speculation leading up to the deadline and analysis immediately after.
MediaMiser used its patented Enterprise software to track ━ you didn’t guess it! ━ not the trades themselves, but the men who tirelessly (and endlessly) report on them.
Here then, the King of the NHL Insiders!
Bob McKenzie distinguished himself in the week leading up to the deadline, being cited in 152 online articles devoted to the trade extravaganza. From there, there was just no catching up to “the most trusted source of hockey information on any media platform”.
Pierre Lebrun, of ESPN (and sometimes TSN and CBC) fame, made an honourable attempt, however, leading all insiders on trade deadline day (February 29), being mentioned in 81 articles.
TSN’s Darren Dreger and Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman were the only other reporters to crack the elusive 100-article barrier.
