by | Nov 23, 2020

Baker Public Relations, a full-service communications firm and New York State-Certified Woman-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE), was honored with a Capital Region MARCOM Award in media relations for the promotion of Cirque du Soleil OVO. For the first time since 2006, Cirque du Soleil returned to the Capital Region with the live production of OVO taking the stage in late January through early February 2020.

The Capital Region MARCOM Awards 2020 were held virtually on November 18 showcasing the creative talent of communications professionals in a variety of categories including marketing, public relations, government/public affairs, integrated campaigns, media relations and more.

“Our team was very creative and strategic when it came to developing and executing a media relations plan that resulted in continuous awareness of the performance,” said Megan Baker, president & CEO, of Baker Public Relations. “We set a goal of securing and coordinating four to five media interviews or stories per week leading up to opening night and we succeeded.”

The agency’s media relations campaign resulted in more than 13,000 tickets sold (doubling Cirque du Soleil’s sales goal) and garnering more than 25 articles and news stories during a short, three-month engagement.

Baker Public Relations was also named a finalist for the integrated marketing campaign carried out on behalf of SUNY Schenectady this year in the wake of the global pandemic and public relations campaign carried out on behalf of Palette – Saratoga Springs and Schenectady, N.Y.
