Baretz+Brunelle Promotes John Ford to Partner

by | Jan 7, 2020

Baretz+Brunelle announced that it has promoted Managing Director John Ford to partner.

“On behalf of all the firm’s partners, I am absolutely thrilled to call John our partner,” said Baretz+Brunelle co-founder Spencer Baretz. “With hubris intended, John is one of the finest professional writers on the planet.”

A former Am Law 100 litigator, author and skilled storyteller, Ford serves as the head of Baretz+Brunelle’s Content Lab, overseeing the production of the firm’s exceptional content for its law firm and financial services clients. Ford’s ghostwritten works for clients have appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post and many other leading national and trade publications. He has drafted hundreds of winning nominations for coveted professional honors such as The American Lawyer’s Litigation Department of the Year, Chambers Award of Excellence, Fortune’s 40 Under 40, and Law360’s Practice Groups of the Year.

Ford’s work draws on his experience as a litigator at WilmerHale and as a law clerk on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit. He is a graduate of Stanford University and a cum laude graduate of the University of Michigan Law School, where he served as an editor of the Michigan Law Review. Ford’s first work of fiction, “The Morgue and Me,” was a best-seller, receiving rave reviews by The Los Angeles Times, The New York Post and Publishers Weekly, and earning a nomination for the highly coveted Edgar Award, the leading award for mysteries presented by The Mystery Writers of America. His second book, “The Cipher,” was an official selection of the Junior Library Guild.

“John’s command of the English language in distilling and communicating some of the most complicated legal and financial concepts is one of the cornerstones of the success of our client marketing efforts and our growing business,” said Baretz+Brunelle co-founder Cari Brunelle. “John has been with us for 10 years, and we are proud to now call him our partner.”

Baretz+Brunelle also promoted Molly Doherty and Zinie Sampson to managing director and Leora Goldfarb and Jessica Klein to director. The firm has doubled in size and grown to 24 full-time employees since its founding in early 2016.
