Brandwave Extend AMER Group Retainer with Addition of Suunto

by | Mar 9, 2020

Leading sports marketing agency, Brandwave has announced it’s working with global fitness and smartwatch brand, Suunto. Adding the brand to its portfolio of AMER Group brands including Salomon, who has been using Brandwave as its lead agency for over seven years.

As Suunto launched into the smartwatch market with the development of the Suunto 7, the first smartwatch to integrate Google Wear OS, they appointed Brandwave to deliver a globally recognised launch in London.

Developing the campaign #Suunto7LDN, Brandwave were tasked with breaking the mould of a typical product launch. To deliver a premium, exclusive experience for UK influencers and media and to affirm Suunto’s position in the smartwatch world with mass reach.

In a vast collective of industry leading guests, over 50 media and influencers were hosted at the Suunto tech bus. The first of many activation touch-points in a product experience evening. Once guests had their new smartwatch, they were taken for a run under the River Thames in the Greenwich foot tunnel to test its capabilities. The tunnel helped to further convey key campaign messages, wrapped in a treescape graphic, immersing guests in a hint of life outside of the city.

After sampling some of Finland’s finest food and drink, guests were joined by the inspirational John McAvoy. A strong advocate and believer in sport being a catalyst for positive change, guests were able to listen first hand to his incredible journey and story; from behind iron bars to Ironman.

With a packed event and multiple content creation touchpoints, the event established an online reach of over 15 million with 400+ social media posts. Massively exceeding any previous brand representation figures in the UK, the event found a perfect balance between digital, physical and influencer touchpoints. Redefining what best practice looks like in a new age of launch events.

Sarina Pietrosanti of Suunto UK Marketing said of the launch, “As a new brand to the smartwatch market, we really wanted to push boundaries and showcase the Suunto brand in a way that would excite this ‘new’ audience with a subtle nod to our Finnish heritage. Brandwave created an excelled, thought out execution which helped us to engage and excite influencers and media. This event created an amazing Suunto brand experience in London and achieved results that speak for themselves.”
