The Coastal Conservation Association of North Carolina (CCA NC) has a public awareness campaign designed to generate broad-based support for the protection and restoration of North Carolina’s declining coastal fisheries resources. The multi-faceted campaign is being supported by Raleigh-based public relations and advertising agency French/West/Vaughan (FWV).
FWV is leading media relations for CCA NC, as well as strategic messaging development, web design, advertising and video production for the initiative, which is housed on the campaign’s official landing page, SaveOurFisheries.org.
Since 1989, CCA NC has worked to preserve the state’s coastal resources through fundraising, volunteer efforts and political advocacy. The organization is currently engaged in a lawsuit against the State of North Carolina, challenging it to fulfill its constitutional obligation to responsibly manage its coastal fisheries resources for the use and enjoyment of all North Carolinians. The North Carolina Court of Appeals, in a unanimous ruling, recently denied a bid by the state to have the case dismissed.
To galvanize public support of the lawsuit and the CCA NC mission, the Save Our Fisheries campaign delivers an urgent message, supported by scientific data, that conveys the long-term cultural, environmental and economic impact caused by decades of wasteful overfishing in North Carolina waters, and calls for public activism to help “turn the tide before it’s too late.”
“Prioritizing the long-term health and viability of North Carolina’s coastal and inshore fisheries will not only benefit commercial fishermen and seafood dealers, but also the average consumer and the fishing public,” said CCA NC Executive Director David Sneed. “This campaign will inform a broad spectrum of North Carolinians about the growing crisis and its consequences if we allow the status quo to continue.”
North Carolina is experiencing alarming declines in its critical fish stocks due to long-running overharvesting, and is in urgent need of coastal fisheries policy reform, according to CCA NC.
“We are proud to have been selected to help amplify the important work of CCA NC,” said FWV Chairman & CEO Rick French. “We look forward to contributing to the Save Our Fisheries campaign and other initiatives to help protect our state’s coastal fisheries on behalf of all North Carolinians.”
