Former Obama Acting Labor Secretary Seth D. Harris Joins Whiteboard Advisors

by | Oct 17, 2019

Whiteboard Advisors, a unique strategic, consulting, and social impact firm serving the workforce development and education markets, announced the addition of Seth D. Harris as senior advisor. A lawyer with deep expertise in labor policy and workforce development, Harris served in President Barack Obama’s administration as Acting Secretary and Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Labor.

“Transformation of the labor market due to globalization and technological innovation is driving demand for fresh thinking, and emerging educational technologies, to close not just the skills gap — but also rising economic inequity,” said Secretary Harris. “Whiteboard Advisors’ work is helping to bridge the gap between policy and innovation, employers and technologies, and workers and the skills they need to secure their place in the middle class. They are changing the conversation and introducing solutions that can effect change at scale. I am delighted to be a part of that effort.”

Secretary Harris also served as a senior policy advisor to both secretaries of labor during the Clinton Administration. Between his service in the Clinton and Obama Administrations, Secretary Harris was a professor and director of labor and employment law programs at New York Law School. He now teaches law at Cornell University and is a frequent source for reporters covering issues related to labor, employment, and the U.S. economy. Secretary Harris joins Whiteboard Advisors’ growing team of advisors, which includes:

  • Former Massachusetts Governor Jane Swift;
  • Anurima Bhargava, who served as Chief of the Educational Opportunities Section of the Civil Rights Division at the U.S. Department of Justice;
  • Former North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue;
  • Corporate learning analyst Josh Bersin; and
  • Best-selling author and former Chronicle of Higher Education editor Jeff Selingo

“Seth brings an extraordinarily valuable perspective and set of experiences to our team,” said Ben Wallerstein, Founder and CEO of Whiteboard Advisors. “But most of all, he shares our commitment to leveraging technology and innovation to address issues of equity and access that animate our work—and mission.” With offices in Washington, D.C., Denver, and Menlo Park, Whiteboard Advisors has a well-earned reputation as the go-to firm for technology companies, investors, and innovative nonprofits working to transform the education and workforce landscape. The firm’s diverse portfolio of clients includes LinkedIn Learning, ClassDojo, General Assembly, and Code.org.
