5-Year Grant Ensures Expanded and Sustained Arts & Culture Coverage from GBH News

Boston, MA – February 20, 2024GBH today announced a $5 million grant from The Fiducia Fund to support The Culture Show, a daily news program shining a spotlight on arts and culture.

The grant, pledged over a five-year period, will allow for the show’s sustainability and expansion to multiple platforms, including streaming on YouTube, a daily podcast, a weekly newsletter, events that include live broadcasts at the GBH Studio at the Boston Public Library, and featured segments on GBH News’ Greater Boston, a daily news program airing on GBH 2, and streaming live on YouTube.

“The arts are vital to a thriving community and The Culture Show brings the local arts scene to the forefront for our listeners,” said Susan Goldberg, president and CEO at GBH. “This extraordinary commitment from The Fiducia Fund is the largest gift ever dedicated to GBH News. It is invaluable to ensuring we can continue to expand our coverage of the arts.”

Launched in November 2023, in a major expansion of GBH’s local arts and culture programming, GBH News launched The Culture Show, a one-hour daily local radio program.  Airing daily from 2 pm to 3 pm, the show added five hours of local arts and culture coverage to the Greater Boston market.

“The arts are an important part of what makes any city thrive culturally. Yet, over the past decade, media coverage of the arts has declined significantly,” said David Andrew Trust, Trustee of The Fiducia Fund. “With a strong focus on the Boston community, GBH News and ‘The Culture Show’ will elevate the discussion of our culture, reminding people daily of the immense offerings we have locally. I am proud that the support from The Fiducia Fund to GBH News is making this all happen.”

The Culture Show is hosted by Jared Bowen, GBH’s Executive Arts Editor. He is joined by rotating co-hosts Callie Crossley, the host of Under the Radar with Callie Crossley; Edgar B. Herwick III, host of The Curiosity Desk; and James Bennett II, a GBH News arts and culture reporter and CRB Classical 99.5 contributor, and a panel of cultural correspondents.

The show explores the vibrant local arts scene and drives conversations about how listeners experience culture across music, movies, fashion, TV, art, books, theater, dance, food, and more, and helps audiences make the most of their leisure time by guiding listeners to the best cultural experiences within a day’s drive from Boston.

“When we launched The Culture Show, we were building on GBH’s deep legacy in the arts and culture space. With this transformative gift from The Fiducia Fund, we’ll continue to grow our audiences and showcase the thriving arts scene that is critical to a vibrant Boston.,” said Pam Johnston, General Manager of GBH News. “The Fiducia Fund has believed in the show’s concept from the start. With its support, GBH News will deepen our longstanding commitment to the arts and cultural organizations across our region, especially those dedicated to reaching a wide array of new audiences.”
