Independent Marketing Firm broadhead Acquires HMH Agency

by | Jan 10, 2022

broadhead, the largest independent, integrated marketing agency in Minnesota, has acquired HMH Agency, a Portland, Oregon-based firm known nationally for its creative work powering brands that are driving the future of transportation.

With clients including Daimler Truck North America brands Freightliner, Western Star, Thomas Built Buses, and Detroit; as well as North Carolina Ports Authority, PNW Railcars, TriMet, Daimler Truck Financial Services, Meritor, Ideanomics and TORC Robotics, HMH has been on the leading edge of innovation and new transportation solutions.  For broadhead, the addition of HMH Agency complements and diversifies an agency well known for its work in the agriculture, food and wellness channels.

“There’s no category hotter right now than electric, autonomous and connected vehicles, and Ed Herinckx and his HMH team are right in the thick of it,” said broadhead founder and CEO Dean Broadhead.“Our partnership is a perfect fit – while HMH dominates the transportation category, broadhead is powering growth across the better-for-you foods, sustainable agriculture and food production categories.”

With combined capitalized billings in excess of $120M, the acquisition of HMH Agency increases broadhead’s overall business by 50% and expands its talent base to include 150 total employees in three offices: Minneapolis, Portland, and Charlotte, North Carolina. Following the acquisition, the broadhead and HMH Agency brands will continue to operate independently, providing category expertise across three of the fastest-growing, future-focused consumer and business global marketplaces – food, agriculture and transportation.

broadhead and HMH will also combine resources to build best-in-class services in several areas that benefit the overall client portfolio, including data science, predictive analytics, experience design, public relations, and more robust offerings in media and consumer research and insights.

“HMH is experiencing rapid growth supporting clients across the transportation spectrum, from commercial trucking to mass transit, from ports to sustainable, clean-energy propulsion systems,” said HMH President Ed Herinckx. “The opportunity to join forces with a like-minded, creative-and-data-driven, independent agency like broadhead will dramatically accelerate our ability to support the growth our clients are experiencing.”

HMH Agency will maintain its Portland- and Charlotte-based operations, and Herinckx will remain president of HMH Agency, while serving on the executive leadership team of broadhead Operating, LLC, and HMH operating units.
