The University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications has named Julie Frey, B.S. Public Relations 1994, as inaugural director of the Office of Careers and Corporate Partnerships (OCCP), a new initiative created to expand employment opportunities for new and recent graduates.
Frey joined the college on March 27 after serving as Communications Director for the UF College of Design, Construction and Planning (DCP). Since 2003, she has overseen communication at DCP, including working closely with the Development Office on alumni engagement, and coordinating the DCP Career Fair since its launch in 2014.
“I couldn’t be more pleased that Julie joined the CJC team to lead the OCCP,” said Assistant Dean for Student Experiences Mira Lowe, who will oversee the initiative. “Her experience in strategic communications, relationship management and program development in corporate, nonprofit and academic arenas will decidedly advance the college’s mission to attract a greater variety of employers to CJC and raise the starting salaries of our graduates.”
As director of the OCCP, Frey will lead a professional development and industry engagement strategy for students, recent alumni and employers. The OCCP will be creating a corporate engagement program that identifies and cultivates partnerships with new and active employers, and promotes CJC and its students.
Initial funding for the OCCP was provided by Barry Berish, B.S. Journalism 1954, who donated funds to help provide better job prospects for students.
