Solomon McCown & Cence (SM&C) announced that Ashley McCown, SM&C’s president, was honored with a 2020 Pinnacle Award for outstanding achievement in Entrepreneurship. The most prestigious recognition for female professionals in Greater Boston, the Pinnacle Awards were created 26 years ago by the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce (GBCC) Women’s Network to honor women annually for outstanding achievement in the workplace, demonstrated leadership that has made a difference, and a commitment to enhancing the quality of life in the region. Ashley received her award at the ceremony held January 31 at the Boston Marriott Copley Place Hotel, which attracted more than 1,300 business, nonprofit and government leaders.
For the past 17 years, Ashley has served as president of Solomon McCown & Company, a strategic communications firm built on a commitment to provide businesses and organizations with senior-level attention and strategic thinking.
“Ashley is a trusted advisor for clients, an accessible mentor for staff, and an articulate and insightful resource for reporters,” said Helene Solomon, who founded Solomon McCown together with Ashley in 2003 after working together for 13 years. “Throughout our lengthy time together as business partners and close friends, she has served as an inspiring role model, especially for young women entering the field. She has mentored and trained hundreds of young staff to be effective and ethical PR practitioners, ultimately advancing the field for all of us.”
During Ashley’s 30-plus years in public relations and crisis communications, she has become known for building and protecting reputations. Some of today’s most well-respected companies, organizations and individuals have turned to Ashley as their keeper of the flame. Throughout her career, Ashley has also been committed to mentoring and giving young professionals the tools they need to be leaders. She is a member of the Board of Overseers for the MSPCA and The Commonwealth Institute (TCI). She is past president of the PR Club of New England.
Under Ashley’s leadership, Solomon McCown & Company has grown into a thriving, 35-person agency that continues to deliver results to some of Boston’s best-in-class real estate, healthcare, corporate and mission-focused organizations.
“Ashley has been my mentor, my colleague, and my dear friend,” said Dan Cence, CEO & Managing Partner, SM&C. “While Ashley can’t talk about a lot of the work she does, given her specialty is crisis communications, I can say—as someone who has watched and listened—she is a master at her craft.”
“Our 2020 honorees are game-changers within their organizations, their communities, and throughout our region,” said Yvonne Garcia, Chair of the GBCC Women’s Network and Chief of Staff to the CEO at State Street. “We are thrilled to honor and thank them for all that they have done to advance their professions, industries, our business community, and female professionals across the region and beyond.”
