Vox Media has named Jennifer Cullem as Head of Product. Cullem will oversee all product-related activities at Vox Media, contributing to the overall vision of the modern media company from a product standpoint and ensuring a team known for innovation in media continues to effectively execute on ambitious priorities. She’ll also be responsible for cultivating and continuously evolving the culture and identity of the Vox Media Product team to ensure it’s inclusive, productive and collaborative.

“Jennifer’s approach to product leadership is familiar to us at Vox Media: user-centric and holistic, building outstanding products that drive real business impact. Her experience, rooted in design, but living at the intersection of technology and media is a perfect match for the moment. She’s obsessed with team building, creating company-wide cultures and focusing on ways to propel the business forward by emphasizing customer experience and brands,” said Trei Brundrett, Chief Operating Officer at Vox Media. “We’re so thrilled to have her on board.”

Cullem will help to create alignment in the roadmaps across the full product portfolio and facilitate cross-team collaboration, aligned to the areas of opportunity and growth, across 13 owned and operated editorial networks, consumer revenue including subscriptions and ecommerce, programmatic and the Concert business.

“I’m so thrilled to get started in this new role and to bring my experience of scaling and building user and consumer-centric technology and product teams, to a place like Vox Media, where technology and product has played such a central role in the company’s mission since day one,” said Cullem.

Cullem is a product leader with nearly 20 years of experience across multiple industries, where she’s led businesses of all sizes from early-stage start-ups to Fortune 500 companies to launch, grow, and scale their unique product offerings. She joins Vox Media from Spotify, where for the past three years, she has worked on the artist and music industry side of the business, launching various products for industry partners. Cullem most recently oversaw and ran a music services marketplace acquired by Spotify, helping to grow the business by rewriting and integrating the platform’s technology into Spotify.

In the early 2000s she launched the first video and music on-demand mobile applications for Verizon Wireless, as well as their first e-commerce site. From there she went on to build products in education technology at Knewton and then at AOL after their acquisition of Patch, the user-generated-content hyperlocal ad platform. In 2014 she went on to join Bitly and oversaw a holistic brand repositioning, product rebuild and launch and was part of the senior leadership team that led Bitly’s ultimate exit to Spectrum Equity in the summer of 2017.
