Western Governors University, an accredited online university, has announced that Glenn Gillen, APR, has been promoted to Regional Manager, Communications and Outreach. In this newly created role, he will oversee public relations and external communications for the Southeast Region, which encompasses North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Alabama, and Mississippi.
Prior to assuming this role, Gillen was Public Relations Manager for WGU North Carolina, the state affiliate of the national university. He will be based out of WGU North Carolina’s office in Durham, where he also resides, but will work to promote the university throughout the Southeast.
Gillen has more than 30 years of experience in public relations and communications, and earned his Accredited in Public Relations (APR) professional designation in 2011. He has worked in various capacities for organizations such as S&A Communications, MarketSmart, Underwriters Laboratories, the UNC General Alumni Association, WellPath Community Health Plans, and WITN TV.
He is presently the Ethics Chair of the North Carolina Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (NCPRSA) and has published articles in PRDaily.com, Strategies & Tactics, PR News Media Relations Guidebook Vol. 2, Indy Week, and more. Gillen earned his bachelor’s degree in radio, television, and motion pictures from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
