Daily Beast: hires Tracy Connor (@TracyConnor) as Executive Editor.

Las Vegas Review-Journal: promotes Nicole Raz (@Nicole0Raz) to Business Editor.

Newsweek: hires Fred Guterl (@fredguterl) as Special Projects Editor. James LaPorta (@JimLaPorta) joins as a Staff Writer focusing on national security and the military.

New York Times: hires Kara Swisher (@karaswisher) as an Opinion Columnist focusing on technology, effective later this summer. She will retain her current role at Recode. Christine Spolar (@christinespolar) joins as International Business Editor, effective Sept 17. She will move to London in October.

ProPublica: hires Patricia Callahan (@SheInvestigates) as a Senior Reporter, effective Aug. 31. She will focus on business stories.

Virginian-Pilot: appoints Marisa Porto (@marisaporto) as Executive Editor.

Wall Street Journal: hires Anthony Galloway (@liveanthony) as Global Head of Video and Audio.

Quartz: hires Whet Moser (@whet) as Deputy Obsession Editor.

InStyle: hires Laura Norkin (@inlauraswords) as Online Deputy Editor.

Healthcare and Medicine

Neurology Now: relaunches as Brain & Life, along with a new website, brainandlife.org. New features include the Healthy Living department with info on nutrition, therapy, finances and other topics for neurology patients. Also new is a Wonders of the Brain department focusing on “neurologic mysteries.” The consumer publication is produced by Wolters Kluwer on behalf of the American Academy of Neurology.
