Ottawa – MediaMiser Ltd., Canada’s leading provider of media analysis solutions, has announced it will fund the MediaMiser Turning News into Knowledge Award to financially assist students at Algonquin College.
The annual $1,000 award will be granted to a second-year Public Relations program student at Algonquin who has shown a keen understanding of public relations measurement and its role in communications.
“Our company was founded by graduates of Algonquin’s Public Relations program,” says Chris Morrison, vice-president of client services at MediaMiser Ltd. “We want to help students become future public relations professionals, and give them the opportunity to understand the importance and value of public relations measurement and analysis.”
“The Public Relations program at Algonquin College has a history of giving back to the community, ever since it was founded in 1984,” says Brenda Rothwell, Executive Director of the Algonquin College Foundation. “I am not at all surprised that as alumni, the partners at MediaMiser would make this kind of generous commitment.”
MediaMiser has been a strong supporter of the Public Relations program at Algonquin College by offering co-op work terms to students and providing part- and full-time employment for graduates. Mr. Morrison is also a member of Algonquin College’s Public Relations program Advisory Committee, which assists in the evaluation of the program and in its assessment in relation to the needs of the community.
“Public relations is all about communications and connecting with people,” says Peter Larock, Coordinator of Algonquin College’s Public Relations program. “MediaMiser’s continued involvement with our program highlights for students that communication, whether it is between individuals, through the media or through actions such as sponsoring a bursary, builds communities.”
