New Site Tracks Fan Tweet Volume for NHL Playoff Matchups
OTTAWA, Ontario – May 6, 2013 – MediaMiser today announced the launch of HockeyTrashTweet.com, a website tracking the volume of fan tweets for each National Hockey League team during the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs. MediaMiser is using its social media monitoring software to capture Twitter data based on team @ mentions and the top two team hashtags for all playoff matchups. HockeyTrashTweet.com will be updated regularly with graphs showing which exciting playoff moments received the most buzz on Twitter.
Hockey fans are encouraged to show support for their teams and trash talk the competition while live-tweeting goals, hits and key plays throughout the playoffs. By checking the fully interactive graphs on HockeyTrashTweet.com the following day, fans will be able see which game moments were the most pivotal.
“At MediaMiser, we’re huge hockey fans as well as social media data geeks so we thought we’d merge these two interests to create HockeyTrashTweet.com,” said MediaMiser CEO Brett Serjeantson. “Sports teams are beginning to understand the importance of growing second-screen engagement and the Stanley Cup Playoffs are the perfect series of events to track how fan engagement and sentiment changes and shifts over time.”
Data for HockeyTrashTweet.com is being collected using MediaMiser SNAP, the company’s small and medium enterprise-level media monitoring and media analysis platform. During last week’s Ottawa Senators’ and Montreal Canadiens’ matchup, a record of 200,000 tweets was captured, with a total of over one million tweets combined for all topics since the start of the playoffs.
MediaMiser will blog about its media analysis of the data from HockeyTrashTweets.com at mediamiser.com until the Stanley Cup is hoisted in June.
