The Knickerbocker Hotel

Housed in what was once the original structure of the former St. Cloud Hotel, The Knickerbocker is a legendary landmark within New York City’s rich history. Completed on October 23, 1906, the stunning Beaux-Arts building on the corner of West 42nd and Broadway was brought to life by John Jacob Astor IV. During construction in 1901, it was discovered that New York City’s planned subway system would cross a small corner of the hotel property, providing access to the new railroad from the hotel basement. This pivotal discovery opened the door to new opportunities, transforming the hotel into a hub for the city’s elite.

Today, The Knickerbocker stands as a timeless celebration of Manhattan’s history, continuing to honor the legacy of its famous past guests. The hotel offers elegant guest rooms and suites intertwined with the history of the city itself, with four suites of note: the 700-sq-ft Parrish Suite inspired by renowned American painter Maxfield Parrish, the Cohan Suite for the “Man Who Owned Broadway,” the Martini Suite – legend has it that the famed dry martini was invented in The Knickerbocker’s ballroom by bartender Martini de Arrma di Taggia –, and the 1,200-sq-ft Caruso Suite named after legendary Italian tenor Enrico Caruso.

The hotel offers a robust fitness experience and exceptional dining by Charlie Palmer. Guests can also enjoy Jake’s, a cultured coffee shop and café; Akoya, a forthcoming intimate temaki restaurant; and St. Cloud, a spectacular rooftop perched just beneath the iconic New Year’s Eve Ball. Situated just blocks from iconic destinations such as Fifth Avenue, The Metropolitan Opera, Rockefeller Center, MoMA, and Bryant Park, The Knickerbocker is an oasis of culinary and cultural experiences.
