by | Apr 11, 2019

Baker Public Relations, a full-service communications firm and New York State-Certified Woman-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE), announced that its founder, president and CEO, Megan Baker, is the recipient of the Impact Award from Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s (IUP) College of Education and Communications (COEC). This newly created recognition honors COEC alumni for outstanding achievement in their profession, engagement with the university, and leadership in their discipline or community. Megan was one of seven individuals to receive the Impact Award at an Awards Luncheon on April 5, 2019.

“I’m deeply honored to receive this award and feel very fortunate to be in a position where I can give back to my alma mater and community,” said Megan. “It’s refreshing to return to campus each year to see all that has transformed and more importantly, to be a part of the evolution. I look forward to what lies ahead for IUP and the College of Education and Communications.”

“Megan is an excellent example for our students. She was driven to be successful in her news broadcasting career and courageous enough to change careers when she founded her company. This illustrates to our students the commitment media professionals make for personal and professional success. Megan’s advocacy for her clients and engagement with our university and students demonstrate her impact on our field,” said Dr. Gail Wilson, chair, Communications Media Department, IUP.

Megan, originally from Butler, Pa., is a 1992 Butler High School graduate and received a bachelor’s degree in Communications Media from IUP in 1996. After college, she enjoyed a 10-year career in TV news as a news reporter and anchor winning a New York state Emmy in 2004 for a long-format community program she co-produced and hosted. In 2007, Megan launched Baker Public Relations, representing clients from startups to Fortune 500 companies in healthcare, tourism, education, lifestyle, hospitality, manufacturing, real estate, retail, technology, government and nonprofit.

Megan is a COEC Advancement Council Member and serves on the Board of Trustees of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Upstate New York/Vermont and Colonie Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. She lives in Albany, N.Y. with her husband and five kids.
