Clarity Acquires Innovation Specialists Dynamo PR

by | Dec 13, 2019

Global communications agency Clarity announces the acquisition of Dynamo, an award-winning consumer tech PR agency that specialises in representing disruptive challenger brands.

The acquisition gives Clarity’s clients access to Dynamo’s award-winning digital and social media capabilities but also their crowdfunding experience which has secured $60 million in funding for companies including 3Doodler, Segway Ninebot and Pimax. Dynamo has won 70 awards and high commendations since launching in 2011 and has been included multiple times as PRWeek’s best agency, PRMoment’s best technology PR company as well as PRWeek’s best place to work.

Dynamo’s team, concentrated in London but with staff in San Francisco, will be absorbed into Clarity’s offices. As a result, Clarity’s London team will double in size to a headcount of 25.

Clarity’s UK Managing Director Rachel Gilley will be responsible for leading the UK business, with Dynamo co-founders Paul Cockerton and Peter Bowles moving into global roles: Chief Product Officer and Chief Creative Officer respectively.

Dynamo’s clients, including Improbable, Nextdoor and SurveyMonkey, will join Clarity’s roster of exciting high-growth brands that include Neos, ChargePoint and Hired.

The deal comes hot-on-the-heels of the investment in Clarity by The Brewery, the independent network of companies linked to communications agency freuds, which has seen Clarity add Los Angeles to its list of offices.

Rachel Gilley, managing director of Clarity London said: “London is an undeniable hotbed for tech innovation and investment in Europe, which is being demonstrated through the kinds of clients we’re working with and the volume of business opportunities we’re seeing.  The chance to bring together two complementary sets of skills and experience under one roof, will enable us to meet the changing needs of our clients who through increased investment are seeing the need to adapt to a more digitally savvy marketing landscape.  I have nothing but admiration for the way Peter and Paul have established an award winning agency based  on creativity and innovation that goes beyond traditional PR and combining that with the skills of our existing team. Roll on 2020!”

Peter Bowles, co-CEO at Dynamo said:“We wanted to take Dynamo to the next level, quickly expanding our work globally and offering more countries our expertise. Clarity and Dynamo are very in sync in terms of current territories and future plans, so it made sense to work together for an amazing future. I’ve worked with Alex MacLaverty, Clarity’s Global COO, before, and with Rachel Gilley’s appointment as London MD back in January this year, we felt joining forces truly created a dream team of two incredibly strong consultancies that should be added to any tech company’s pitch list.”

Sami McCabe, Founder and CEO of Clarity said:“The deal with Dynamo is the first of a series of acquisitions we’re planning to increase our range of services, expand into new geographies and build our experience and reputation in new vertical markets. Dynamo significantly expands the depth and breadth of our services and gives us meaningful scale in the UK market. It’s an agency I’ve long admired for its innovative, creative approach to client services and to building an amazing agency culture. I’m excited to see what we can achieve together.”
