Clarity Names Jody Johnson Head of People and Culture

by | Jun 9, 2021

Clarity, a global integrated communications agency recently commended by PRWeek as both Best International Agency, and winner of Specialist Consultancy of the Year, today announces the appointment of Jody Johnson as Head of People and Culture, a new global role that further strengthens Clarity’s leadership team, and will serve Clarity’s offices in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, London, Amsterdam and Falmouth.

Jody is a highly-respected human resources professional with 20 years of agency experience. At Clarity, she will be responsible for ensuring that every current and future member of the team is provided with the support, opportunities and incentive to deliver their very best work, and that they also have a lot of fun doing it. Clarity’s values of being Global, Fearless and Positive stand at the heart of the business’s culture, and Jody will ensure that as Clarity continues to grow, these values remain strong. As part of her role, Jody will also be leading Clarity’s EDI program, including overseeing its $1mm pro-bono fund for diversity driven clients as well as its partnership with the Diversity Marketing Consortium, a group of agencies and consultants founded in 2020 to provide $3MM pro bono marketing and legal services to female and minority-led startups.

“We want Clarity to be the best agency in the world to work for, so now is the perfect time to bring in someone to help us double-down on building our incredible team,” said Alex MacLaverty, Chief Operating Officer. “Especially as we continue to grow and diversify, it’s critical our culture remains authentic to our start-up roots, while leading the way in terms of inclusion and opportunity. As a business with no-one to answer to other than our staff, we have free rein to continue creating an exceptional experience for our people – and I have no doubt that’s what Jody will help us deliver.”

Jody has held senior HR positions at some of the world’s largest agencies including Text 100, Next Fifteen and the Huntsworth Group. She was also Chief People Officer at M Booth for 10 years, in which they were named PRWeek’s “Best Places to Work”, and most recently held strategic advisory roles with The Hoffman Agency, Affect Strategies and Global Gateway Advisors. Jody is an empowering and inclusive leader not only in the workplace but in her community. She is a founding member of a community food pantry and furthered her knowledge of EDI by completing Cornell University’s Certificate program for Diversity and Inclusion. She is also a passionate and active member of the local chapter of Showing Up for Racial Justice. She will be based in New York and reports into Alex MacLaverty.

“I’m thrilled to join Clarity and become a part of this dynamic and innovative agency,” added Jody. “I’ve always been drawn to companies that have a clear mission and ethos. Clarity is dedicated to continuing to build a remarkable team and a culture of equity and inclusion, and it’s my goal to continue to fill its ranks with diverse, talented and fearless individuals who absolutely love working here.”

Jody’s appointment follows Clarity’s recent acquisition of digital marketing agency 3WhiteHats, and a string of other leadership hires across the business. In 2020 Clarity saw record revenue growth of 47% year on year, and has made a series of recent investments in the business including the acquisitions of Yellow Communications in Benelux; Brew PR in Los Angeles, and consumer tech agency Dynamo in London. Recent client wins for Clarity include Klas, AgEagle and React.
