Hawthorne Strategy Group is significantly expanding its reach and scope with the acquisition of Marj Halperin Consulting (MHC). The companies have officially integrated operations, with MHC founder Marj Halperin joining Hawthorne Strategy Group as executive vice president and partner.
The combined entity will operate under the name of Hawthorne Strategy Group, enhanced by the MHC team’s award-winning media relations, community outreach, and issues management experience.
Further expanding its experienced leadership team, Hawthorne welcomes Wendi Taylor Nations as executive vice president and partner. The former chief marketing officer for World Business Chicago brings her business strategy and media network to the team as executive vice president.
“After several months of collaboration, we are excited to bring the MHC team, well-known especially in the non-profit and government sectors for proven communications solutions, to the Hawthorne team,” said Gene Reineke, founder and chief executive officer for Hawthorne Strategy Group. “Equally exciting is the addition of Wendi, her skills complement the combined team with added expertise that will broaden our service to clients in a variety of ways.”
“I’ve worked the PR industry from all sides,” Halperin said. “This diverse experience translates into an emphatically proactive approach to client needs. My work is fully in sync with the Hawthorne brand and I’m thrilled to join the team,” said Halperin.
Halperin’s 30+ years of experience include journalism, marketing, public relations, non-profit management, government reform, and campaign management. She is also the Democratic analyst for the WGN-TV Morning News.
Nations’ marketing and public relations career includes her role as senior vice president and health and wellness practice group lead at FleishmanHillard Chicago, and as managing director for the Porter Novelli Chicago office, among other leadership positions.
“Working with a smart, driven team that is looking toward the future is something I’m truly excited to be a part of,” Nations added. “Our past partnership efforts have resulted in incredibly successful campaigns and satisfied clients, and I look forward to our continued growth as one unified team.”
Hawthorne Strategy Group was founded by Reineke in 2012 and provides a full range of public relations services. The firm was recently awarded two national Bulldog Reporter Awards, including the Bronze for both Best New Agency and Best Small Agency of the Year in 2017. The company prides itself on its ability to bring the experience of a big public relations firm with the tailored attention of a small firm.
The expanded team is operating as a combined entity from the Hawthorne Strategy Group offices at Michigan and Van Buren in Chicago.
