MCBC, a Communications and Media Shop Powered Entirely by Multi-diverse Hires, Rebrands as POV Agency

MC Brand Communications (MCBC), a boutique strategic communications agency that reimagines how PR and communications are done and who they’re done by, announced a company rebrand to embody its DNA, continued growth, and refreshed approach in alignment with industry shifts and a rapidly evolving media landscape. Now operating as POV Agency, the new moniker reflects its expanding team’s unique backgrounds, perspectives and attributes.

The agency, which celebrates its third year of outstanding service, is led and supported entirely by people of color or those who have been “othered” by the mainstream – flaunting a patchwork of varying cultures, insights and expertise.

In addition to the rebrand, the company welcomes the return of its founder and communications veteran, Michael “MCB” Chavez Booth, who launched the agency in 2019 and will oversee the agency’s sport and entertainment practice and new business development. He departed the company in 2020 to join The Story Mob where he helmed its North America office. There, he led cutting-edge communications strategies for some of esports and gaming’s leading competitive organizations, publishers and tournament organizers – including Riot Games’ League Championship Series and Team Liquid. Throughout his 15-year career, Chavez Booth has led major projects and teams across international agencies Edelman and FleishmanHillard, as well as major sports properties such as the NBA and NFL.

“In spite of the pandemic and built-in challenges of being a startup – a minority-owned one at that – our growth these last few years has been nothing short of magical,” said Chavez Booth. “As managing partner, Pilaar Terry does an exceptional job cultivating a firm that internal and external partners trust and respect. We are primed and ready to show our partners the importance of introducing communications at early planning stages, while also influencing what representation looks like within the space.”

Chavez Booth joins forces with his Managing Partner Pilaar Terry, who expanded POV Agency from a fledgling two-person consultancy into a well-renowned agency with 10 employees across five states. Since inception, the agency has counseled more than a dozen domestic and international brand clients including Under Armour, HyperX and WatchMojo and leading-edge agency clients like Rain the Growth Agency, Reach Agency, QYOU Media, Slash MGMT, and Wheelhouse Labs.

“A company like POV Agency simply did not exist early in my career,” said Terry. “This industry was dominated by folks who did not and do not look like me. We’re changing all of that from the inside out. As a Black woman, building an agency and culture where I would have thrived 20 years ago is incredibly gratifying. It’s a dream to intentionally select partners and employees that share our vision while doing dope work we believe in. With MCB back in a Leadership role, I’m anticipating only good things for POV.”

In the months ahead, POV Agency will focus its energy on storytelling for partners who qualify as underdogs and culture drivers. The company aims to evoke authentic emotional responses through inspiring, creative communications strategies that leverage unique perspectives. This includes brands, organizations and talent across consumer lifestyle, gaming, fashion, BIPOC beauty, health, wellness & spirituality, the advertising/marketing industry and the Creator Economy.

To support the shift, POV also recently promoted Flerine Cruz to associate vice president and hired rising talent Jadyn Stutey as a communications strategist. Farrah Louviere Cerf, formerly of Hallmark and FOX Studios, will serve as business strategist.
