PRSSA, the foremost organization for students interested in the public relations and communications fields, announced the establishment of a new Chapter at Universidad Ana G. Méndez, Gurabo Campus. This marks the second school in Puerto Rico to be affiliated with PRSSA, continuing the organization’s mission to build a robust, widespread network of students at institutions of higher learning.

PRSSA established its first Chapter in Puerto Rico at Universidad del Sagrado Corazón in July 2019.

“We are thrilled to build upon our global footprint with the addition of Universidad Ana G. Méndez, Gurabo Campus in Puerto Rico,” said Jeneen Garcia, Executive Director, PRSSA. “We take pride in our international network of students and this partnership further emphasizes our commitment to providing networking and mentorship opportunities to students not only in the U.S., but across the world.”

Universidad Ana G. Méndez is a private university in Puerto Rico with more than 300 programs, from technical to doctoral degrees. The school is composed of three campuses: Universidad Ana G. Méndez (Gurabo), Universidad Ana G. Méndez (Cupey), Universidad Ana G. Méndez (Carolina), as well as Universidad Ana G. Méndez-Virtual Campus and 11 university locations throughout the island. It also has established university centers in Dallas, Wheaton, Maryland, and Orlando, Miami, and Tampa, in Florida.

Dr. Ivette Soto Vélez will serve as faculty adviser. A member of PRSA, Dr. Soto has published work in international academic journals: Sala de Prensa, Revista Clave and the International Journal of Public Relations. She currently teaches undergraduate and graduate communications courses on the Gurabo campus, including Research Methods in Communications, Corporate Image and Identity, and Crisis Communications. Her research interests include organizational communication, social media and ethics in the media.

“I feel extremely privileged to belong to PRSA and be able to create a student Chapter at the Universidad Ana G. Méndez, Gurabo Campus,” Soto said. “I know it will be a learning opportunity for my students and will create more enthusiasm within the Communications Department. With this initiative, a bridge is being built between the academy and leaders in the public relations industry.”

The Universidad Ana G. Méndez, Gurabo Campus Chapter will be supported by the PRSA Dallas Chapter, which will help foster student and professional connections by providing speakers, networking opportunities, career mentoring and other benefits.
