SheKnows Media, a top women’s lifestyle digital media company with 79 million unique visitors per month and more than 350 million social media fans and followers, has announced the winners of its 4th annual #Femvertising Awards, honoring brands that are challenging gender norms by building stereotype-busting, pro-female messages and images into ads that target women.
Based on a term the company coined in 2014 at Advertising Week, SheKnows Media launched the #Femvertising Awards in 2015 and has since received submissions from over 350 brands and agencies of all sizes and across all industries, and nearly 40,000 votes have been cast for the best ads.
For the second time, SheKnows Media launched the #Femvertising Awards in honor of Equal Pay Day, and has expanded the scope and definition to be inclusive of ads that do the right thing by all humans, regardless of gender, race, religious beliefs and sexual orientation.
“Diversity builds on a commitment made by the founders of BlogHer since its inception and has not wavered since,” said SheKnows CEO Samantha Skey. This event gives us an incredible platform to celebrate the brands who are utilizing their advertising messages to help challenge gender norms.”
The finalists were chosen by a select group of nine female judges, whom are leaders in their industries: Barri Rafferty (President and CEO of Ketchum), Claudia Chan (CEO of S.H.E. Summit and S.H.E. GLOBAL Media, author of This is How We Rise), Lynn Branigan (President and CEO of She Runs It), Madeline Di Nonno (CEO of the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media), Sarah Spain (ESPN radio host, writer and TV personality), Sharmi Albrechtsen (Founder of SmartGurlz), Shelley Zalis (CEO of The Female Quotient and Founder of The Girls’ Lounge), Solange Claudio (President of Moxie and MRY), Tricia Clarke-Stone (Co-Founder and CEO of WP Narrative_). Then, the public voted on their favorite campaigns in each category to determine the winners.
