Subject Matter announced that Capitol Hill veteran and experienced lobbyist Cedric Grant will join the firm’s government relations team beginning February 1. Grant comes from H&R Block where he has led public policy development and lobbying outreach to Democratic Members. Previously, Grant was Chief of Staff to Representative Hakeem Jeffries (NY-8) and Director of the White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships at the Department of Commerce. Earlier in his career, he held senior advisory positions to Representative Charles Rangel.
“We’re pleased to kick off 2019 by announcing that a terrific talent is joining the firm, adding depth on tax and financial issues to our team. Cedric’s experience on the Hill, working with Executive Branch agencies and working with the financial service sector and a range of faith-based organizations will be a great asset to our clients, as we help them develop legislative strategies,” said Subject Matter partner Steve Elmendorf.
Grant brings significant experience in policy development and advocacy to Subject Matter, the creative advocacy firm that combines government relations with creative content, advertising, and strategic communications.
For the past year, Grant has been the lead Democratic lobbyist for H&R Block, focusing on developing and executing a strategic agenda on legislative outreach. He has maintained key relationships and served on the Block PAC Board. Prior to that, as Chief of Staff to Representative Hakeem Jeffries, Grant led strategy development and rollout for the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee of the 115th Congress. In this role, he maintained key relationships with House and Senate leadership.
“Cedric’s impressive experience working with leaders in both the government and corporate sectors provides a broad-based strategic perspective that can help clients as they advocate on policy issues,” said Subject Matter partner Jimmy Ryan. “We look forward to welcoming Cedric to the team.”
“I am excited to join such a highly-regarded group of government relations professionals and look forward to helping clients navigate an increasingly complex policy and political environment,” said Grant.
