Thinkingbox Films Division Launches with the Acquisition of The Heist

by | Jul 7, 2022

To further strengthen their production capabilities, Thinkingbox has announced that they have acquired Vancouver & Montreal -based, live-action production company, The Heist – creating a new division within the company – Thinkingbox Films.

Starting in 2010, The Heist has spent the last twelve years building its multidisciplinary team of creative filmmakers and creating content for some of the industry’s most sought-after brands – including Red Bull, lululemon, GMC, Cadillac, On Running, Jaybird, and American Express. The acquisition also brings several new members to Thinkingbox’s thriving employee roster, including several award-winning directors, editors, and producers.

“It’s been our dream to take what we’ve built in Vancouver and expand it across Canada and into the United States. Joining Thinkingbox will allow us to enter a new level of production and continue to push boundaries in content creation. We’re excited to see what the future holds and grateful to have found a home at Thinkingbox,” said Mike Goldstein, founder of The Heist and who will now oversee the entire live action division of Thinkingbox Films as Director of Film, Live Action.

Having firmly positioned themselves as pioneers across multiple creative disciplines, including experiential, digital, social, and animation, Thinkingbox now takes a bold and strategic leap into the world of live-action filmmaking.

“Our ambitious vision of crafting world-celebrated content for leading brands across the US and Canada is only bolstered by this addition. We cannot wait to see what great things come from this collaboration with Mike and his talented team of filmmakers,” said Amir Sahba, CEO of Thinkingbox. The Heist team will merge with the current Animation team at Thinkingbox to form the new FILMS division. Additionally adding a Montreal office to the current Thinkingbox’s five offices in Vancouver, Toronto, New York City, Los Angeles, and Salt Lake City.

The Heist addition follows Thinkingbox’s strategic growth plan via organic and acquisitions. Over the last two years, Thinkingbox has acquired WLS, Aarra, Antisocial, and Chen Productions. The company also has grown by 200% and revenue by over 300% in the same time period.
