This is the time of the year when everyone in our egocentric business thinks they know what will happen in 2025.
So here are my predictions. (But unlike other know-it-alls, my advice to readers is to not bet on them being correct.)
By Category
Media
- Because of Meta’s doing away with outside fact checkers, more untruths than ever will be posted by social media users, (led by the felon liar in chief)?
- Fact checking on what our felon president says will return.
- Liberal political programs will become more slanted than ever when discussing President Trump’s policies.
- Conservative political programs will be more slanted than ever when discussing President Trump’s policies.
- President Trump will shout “fake news” whenever an anti-Trump article is written about him.
Politics
- Because of President Trump’s behavior, the Democrats will regain control of the House in 2026 and the Senate and presidency in 2028.
- When Democrats regain control of the House in 2026, there’s an excellent chance that because of his behavior, President Trump will again be impeached.
- Departing members of the Department of Justice will write books detailing their investigation of President Trump.
- Defecting GOP House and Senate members will help Democrats block the great majority of his agenda and he will say they are RINO’s.
Sports
- Even though the New York Mets spent more money signing Juan Soto than the annual budget of many countries, they will not win the World Series. Maybe not even get to it.
- The New York Giants will win more games this season than they did last season – but not many more.
- The New York Jets will win more games this season than they did last season – but not many more.
- A player’s number will be retired and he will be described as a “fine gentleman,” by TV commentators, even though he has a rap sheet.
- Alcohol advertising on sports events will not decrease, even though studies have shown that they can cause cancer.
- Gambling commercials on sportscasts will not decrease, even though statistics show that it’s a growing problem in the U.S.
- Saudi Arabia will be accused of sportswashing as more international sports events are held there.
- When events are held in Saudi Arabia, sponsors will say,” We just follow the athletes.”
- Even though sponsors of the Super Bowl are unhappy with their ROI, sponsors will say they are happy.
PR Industry
- Experienced PR pros will be fired because hordes of recent inexperienced grads of communications schools are willing to work for less money.
- A person will be told “with talent like yours, you’ll always have a job here,” and be fired as soon as things turn sour.
- A supervisor will take credit for an underling’s good ideas. (Many times.)
- Supervisors who are not familiar with the content of various print pubs and TV shows will draw up a list of targets that do not cover a topic and then blame placement people for not delivering.
- Scapegoats will always be looked for.
- Supervisors with no journalistic experience will tell subordinates with no journalistic experience to think like a reporter.
- My major prediction for PR employees that you can bet the farm will happen: Promises will be made by supervisors and top management to underlings that they have no intention of keeping. So employees should always remember what Niccolo Machiavelli wrote in “The Prince.” “The promise given was a necessity of the past: the word broken is a necessity of the present.”
