Former U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Dan Glickman named Chair of APCO’s International Advisory Council

by | Feb 17, 2021

Former U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Dan Glickman expanded his role at APCO Worldwide, taking the helm as the first chair of APCO Worldwide’s International Advisory Council, Founder and Executive Chairman Margery Kraus announced.

“Dan is a dear friend and a valued colleague, with whom I have worked for many years,” Kraus said. “His astute counsel, backed by decades of experience in Washington—in both public and private sectors—has been critical for clients seeking advice on wide range of issues impacting their business, and I am thrilled that he is expanding his role on the IAC. Clients and colleagues alike will benefit immensely from Dan’s leadership.”

The IAC and its four subgroups comprise more than 100 recognized global leaders, including former elected politicians, leaders of business and industry, academics at leading universities, world-class journalists and editors, NGO and nonprofit pioneers, diplomats and policy experts. Each IAC member offers invaluable real-world knowledge, helping clients face and conquer complex issues and providing robust counsel to help make the right decisions. As the chair of the IAC, Secretary Glickman will help connect clients with key IAC members to tackle challenges and leverage opportunities around the world.

“Since joining the IAC 10 years ago, I’ve witnessed APCO’s astonishing continued growth and evolution, leading the industry in critical areas, such as sustainability, social impact, climate change and health, among others,” Secretary Glickman said. “I look forward to continuing to work with the stellar professionals at APCO and its IAC.”

Most recently, Secretary Glickman served as the executive director of the Aspen Institute Congressional Program, a nongovernmental, nonpartisan educational program for members of U.S. Congress. Prior to joining the Aspen Institute, Secretary Glickman served as the chairman of the Motion Picture Association of America, Inc. (MPAA) and director of the Institute of Politics at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. From 1995 to 2001, he served as U.S. secretary of agriculture, where he led the department in administering farm and conservation programs, modernizing food safety regulations, forging international trade agreements to expand U.S. markets and improving its commitment to fairness and equality in civil rights. Before his appointment as the secretary of agriculture, he served in the U.S. House of Representatives for 18 years, representing the 4th congressional district of Kansas

Based in Washington, D.C., Secretary Glickman is expanding his role at APCO during a critical time of growth for its Washington office and the company as a whole. In January, Licy Do Canto, a values-driven leader with more than 25 years of experience across nonprofit, philanthropic, corporate and government sectors, joined APCO as the managing director of its Washington office. The same month, APCO launched a strategic partnership with water-climate intelligence pioneer Vector Center and acquired the Global Philanthropy Group (GPG), a consulting firm specializing in helping individuals, foundations and corporations design and implement philanthropic strategies and programs—the latest steps in the growth and expansion of its Impact & Sustainability group. APCO will continue to bolster its sustainability and social impact capabilities through 2021, culminating in the upcoming launch of a significant new initiative in this area.

For more than 35 years, APCO Worldwide has been a trusted advisor and partner to private, public and non-profit clients as they try to identify and manage new and emerging issues, challenges and opportunities around the world. Established by Kraus as a single-person operation in 1984, APCO has grown to a global advisory and advocacy communications consultancy with offices in more than 30 markets and experience working in more than 80 markets globally, providing in-depth advice, perceptive guidance and creative approaches for its clients.
