The global agritech market is growing at pace, and with IGS receiving funding worth £42m in Q4 this year, PHA will promote IGS’ industry-leading credentials and raise awareness of vertical farming in the UK. The team, which is also responsible for the co-ordination of international PR agencies, spans technology, sustainability and business communications expertise, across PHA’s London and Manchester offices.
Food security is a growing concern to consumers, particularly post-pandemic, and it’s estimated that 90% of the planet’s soil could be compromised in less than 30 years. Consumers are changing their diets to become more sustainable, and this is putting pressure on food manufacturers to find alternative solutions to traditional farming. IGS’s blend of engineering, crop science and agronomy skills builds the best indoor crop technology, and allows IGS’s global customer base to produce sustainable crops with zero food miles.
The PR campaign will raise the profile of the business amongst B2B targets through a proactive and strategic press office to highlight the key issues affecting the sector, as well as core business achievements, investment announcements and customer success stories.
IGS recently announced the conclusion of its Series B funding round at COP26. The announcement was made at its exhibition site at the Sustainable Glasgow Landing and was welcomed by First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon MSP. The PHA Group supported the COP26 PR campaign, securing 41 pieces in national, business and trade media over the two-week period.
Kate Forster, Head of Communications at IGS, says: “IGS has always been well-respected in the industry and has traditionally had a positive media presence, but with a number of tangible developments and technological milestones on the horizon, we wanted to take things to the next level. Consumers are waking up to the benefits of vertical farming, and The PHA Group will be integral to supporting our next phase of growth, not just across the UK, but internationally too.”
Mimi Brown, Head of Entrepreneurs and Business at The PHA Group, says: “IGS is committed to solving issues relating to food security, harvest certainty, and sustainability. It represents the future of farming and decarbonising agriculture, and that is why we are so excited to be partnering with the company. COP26 was a fantastic moment for the brand, to raise visibility on the ground and to show visitors what a vertical farm looks like – and we were so pleased to be a part of that – but it’s just the start. We look forward to continuing this momentum post COP to promote IGS’s tailored approach to crop science and its commitment to revolutionising the indoor growing market.”

Founded in 2013, IGS brought together decades of farming and engineering experience to create an agritech business with a vision to revolutionise the indoor growing market. Its commitment to innovation has continued apace and it has evolved the applications of its technology beyond agriculture to create solutions for a wide variety of indoor environments which enhance life for plants. IGS launched its first vertical farming demonstration facility in August 2018.
