August 2026, Scripps cuts jobs in streaming, automation, AI push

E.W. Scripps Co. announced a company-wide reorganization that includes 268 job cuts as it shifts local-news operations toward streaming, centralized digital production, automation and AI tools. Leadership framed the reductions as part of a transformation to make operations more sustainable and to reallocate resources from production tasks to field reporting. The plan includes launching 24/7 local news streams and centralizing some digital work; however, the changes will eliminate roles across stations and prompt concern about local newsroom capacity and the broader industry trend of tech-driven consolidation in local media.
