May 2026, Midcoast Villager newspaper cuts staff in bid for financial stability

The Midcoast Villager implemented a round of layoffs and buyouts that removed six positions, including its managing editor and multiple copy‑editing and sales roles. Publisher Aaron Britt framed the changes as a financial restructuring intended to put the recently merged regional weekly on a path to sustainability, saying the paper expects to reach profitability and has already increased circulation and ad revenue compared with the predecessor titles. Staff reductions were paired with some new hires and shared services with other local operations; the paper says no further cuts are planned as it pursues a leaner operating model.
