Twitter reacts: “Why the **** are the Yankees in Canada on Memorial Day?”

A note to MLB schedule-makers: You might want to consider the patriotism of New York Yankees fans before finalizing dates for next year.

Game One of the current Yankees-Toronto Blue Jays series starts tonight, at 7 pm.

That’s totally cool, of course, if you’re a Jays fan.

But if you’re a Yankees fan and general lover of the afternoon Memorial Day ball game, well, this is nothing short of blasphemy.

Memorial Day baseball is a staple of the MLB calendar, and of Americana in general. There are ten MLB games scheduled to be played in the afternoon (local time) today, thanks to the holiday: Chicago, Boston, Baltimore, St. Louis and other fine cities each have a great day of baseball already laid out for them.

But Yankees fans have to wait, and – even worse – watch their beloved club play not just in another city, but another country.

And they’re not all that happy about it, either.

Well then. Luckily for the Jays, it seems as though most of these fans won’t be making the trip up north to see the game tonight. Because they seem a little upset, and I don’t really blame them. After all, it’s the Yankees.

Happy Memorial Day to everyone – even if you have to wait until tonight to watch your team.
