It’s now December and, ready or not, the holiday season is almost upon us.
And that means the annual supernova of toy marketing activity is burning at its white-hot brightest right now. From video games to good, old-fashioned pies in the face, the toy industry is at its peak during these heady days leading up to the end of December.
So which items are being mentioned the most on Twitter?
MediaMiser tracked items in Toys R Us’s Fab 15 list (and some of the “Best of the Rest” list) in order to gauge which has gotten the most traction.
The results as of Dec. 4 are as follows:
And although video game items such as Guitar Hero Live, the LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack, Skylanders SuperChargers Starter Pack, and the Disney Infinity Star Wars Starter Pack are very well-represented in this year’s hot list, other items have also made their presence felt.
The Anki Overdrive Starter Kit may remind you of those old slot cars you used to shoot around a plastic track as a kid, but this product goes one better: You can use your mobile device to take control of cars and battle it out on the track, going against friends or AI-controlled enemy cars.
And the Nerf N-Strike Modulus Blaster, as we mentioned in a past post, has captured the hearts of technical geeks everywhere with its elegant design and military-style attachment array:

Finally, the Pie Face Game, a throwback to the 1970s that Hasbro has reintroduced into the toy market, is a big hit with consumers (in our previous analysis around Black Friday, it was the most likely to be associated with want-style keywords of all items).
After all, what says bonding more than hitting your friend or uncle in the face with a pie and then tweeting the evidence?
