TUSCALOOSA, Ala., Sept. 12, 2023  — The Plank Center for Leadership in Public Relations Board of Advisors has announced the appointment of two new board members: Madeline Chadwick and Dr. Marlene Neill. The Board of Advisors encompasses seasoned public relations practitioners, all of whom utilize their passion, wisdom and expertise to aid in the mission of The Plank Center. Furthermore, the board provides oversight and counsel on decision-making and strategic planning for the future of the Center.

“The goals of The Plank Center remain steadfast,” Dr. Karla Gower, director of The Plank Center, said. “The board is confident that our newest additions will continue our mission to empower and advance the next generation of emerging leaders in the profession. We are excited to welcome them to the group and look forward to working with them.”

Madeline Chadwick was appointed as the chief corporate affairs officer of Papa Johns this past February after serving as senior vice president of corporate affairs since November 2019. Within her role, Chadwick oversees the internal and external communications of the company, while also managing its corporate social responsibility and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) missions.

“Many of us would not be where we are today without the mentors we’ve had throughout our careers,” Chadwick said. “I’m looking forward to working with The Plank Center to honor Betsy’s legacy and continue to further our profession. Developing strong, skillful communicators has never been more essential in our changing world.”

Dr. Marlene Neill is an associate professor in the Department of Journalism, Public Relations & New Media, and graduate program director for the Journalism and American Studies programs at Baylor University. Her research interests include ethics in public relations and advertising, public relations management, integrated communication, and more. She has co-authored two books and is credited with a variety of publications.

“The Plank Center has an admirable mission, which includes activities focused on preparing future leaders in public relations and contributing knowledge through original leadership research studies,” Dr. Neill said. “My students and I have benefited from these programs in the past, and I look forward to having the chance to contribute as a member of the Board of Advisors. The organization aligns with my research interests and values.”
